Privacy Policy

The short version: you can use CarServicePal without an account at all (your first car is stored only in your browser). If you sign in with Internet Identity, your vehicle, maintenance, and receipt data is stored in our on-chain backend, tied to your private Internet Identity — not a password database we could leak. We don't sell your data, and we don't see your Internet Identity password because there isn't one.
1. Guest use (no account)
You can add and track one vehicle with no sign-in at all. That data lives only in your browser's local storage — it never reaches our servers or the canister, and clearing your browser data or switching devices will lose it. Signing in with Internet Identity moves it into your private account so it's backed up and available across devices.
2. What we collect when you sign in
- Account identifier: your Internet Identity principal — a cryptographic identifier, not a password or email. Internet Identity is designed so we never see your actual credentials, even if your passkey is stored in Google or Apple's password manager.
- Vehicle and maintenance data: the vehicles you add and the service records you log — dates, mileage, cost, shop, notes, and any receipt photos you attach.
- Email address (optional): only if you choose to enable Pro reminder emails or dated maintenance confirmations. We never share it, and it's the one piece of contact info we hold, since Internet Identity itself doesn't provide one.
3. Where your data lives
Signed-in data — vehicles, maintenance records, and receipt images — is stored directly on the Internet Computer, in our own canister (on-chain backend), keyed to your Internet Identity principal. We don't use a separate cloud database for this data.
4. The AI assistant
If you sign in, an optional AI assistant can answer questions about a vehicle's maintenance history and help you understand symptoms. Your question and relevant vehicle context are sent to our AI provider, MindStudio, through our own relay server, to generate a response. The assistant is for informational purposes only — it is not a substitute for a qualified mechanic's inspection, and we do not store the conversation beyond what's needed to answer it.
5. Payments
CarServicePal Pro ($9/month or $49/year) is billed through Stripe. We never see or store your card details — Stripe handles that directly, and we receive only confirmation that your subscription is active.
6. Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage patterns (which pages are visited, how often) so we can improve the app. It does not see your vehicle or maintenance data. You can opt out using Google's browser opt-out tool.
7. What we don't do
- No advertising or ad networks.
- No selling, renting, or sharing your data with data brokers.
- No third-party requests from the app beyond Stripe (billing), MindStudio (only when you use the AI assistant), Resend (only if you enable reminder emails), and Google Analytics.
8. Exporting and deleting your data
- Export anytime: download a JSON backup or print a clean report of your full service history from the app.
- Delete a vehicle: deleting a vehicle also deletes its maintenance records and receipts — this is self-service, in the app, and immediate.
- Full account erasure: to have your Internet Identity principal and any remaining data fully removed, email help@carservicepal.com. We'll confirm once it's done, typically within 30 days.
9. Children's privacy
CarServicePal is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date above and note the change here.
